Jubar Sharing has moved locations! All new blog posts will be found on the new blog site!

I tried to move all these posts to the new location, but for whatever reason blogger isn't playing nicely with Wordpress. I cannot find a solution online, so for now for aesthetic reasons, I'll keep them separate.

Slowly, I may move them over by copying and inserting the pictures, as copying works, even though importing does not. C'est la vie!

Both will still be Jubar Sharing...just no more new posts will be on blogger...all new posts will be at www.lunajubar.com/JubarSharing. If you go to the root you will be linked back to my Facebook Photography page - Lunajubar Photography... ;)

Thanks for following me and I hope you will hop on over to the new location and continue to follow me there! Many thanks!
Facebook
games often require you to like the page and to allow an app.
Internet games don't have those same requirements. And text IWGs are at
applicable texting rates. Let me know if you win at any of these! I put my wins below.

Also
pay attention to the receive email check boxes - most aren't
required. It is required to say you read the rules, though. Good luck
everyone!
(Watch It!)Tweet

I want to recommend if you have the time, there is less than 2 days to sign up and watch NOW the latest from Food Matters - Hungry for Change! I posted about Food Matters and a couple other food documentaries I had watched here.

Hungry for Change talks about all the reasons one should change their diet (not be on a diet) and how they look at themselves. It's a great motivator! After you watch...or during, they will offer the chance to purchase it or the Food Matter recipe book or both!

Some other food documentaries I have watched and recommend are: 1) Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. 2) Forks Over Knives. 3) Fat Head. 4) Killer At Large: Why Obesity... 5) Ingredients. 6) Dying to Have Known. 7) The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue (wasn't my fav). 8) The Future of Food.
Here are some of my favs to follow when it comes to Disney Info!

Chip & Company! I follow them on Facebook, I go to their blog and get their newsletter, and I follow on Twitter. I love this site because it is a bunch of bloggers that share their personal experiences! Also, they do regular Disney giveaways (though I have yet to win) and share awesome Disney information. They also share rumors and confirm or deny them once information is received.

Disney On Wheels. I follow on Facebook and Twitter. I love the insight from a woman that see Disney on Wheels!

Walt Disney World for Grownups. I follow on Facebook because they provide great adult advice and trip ideas.

Disney Go To Girl. I follow her blog and Twitter. I was really into her blog, but after finding Chip & Co, I kind of don't follow her blog as much. She has good giveaways, too. Also, she focuses more on Disneyland (probably why I follow less).

Disney Parks Blog. I check this out every now and again, because they will always have the truth of what's going on at the parks! Not to mention, they have awesome giveaways! Looks like I read the blog, because they are on Facebook and I follow!

Delightfully Disney is another good one to check out on Facebook and Twitter. Very delightful.

Of course I follow on Facebook - Walt Disney World, Run Disney, and Disney Movie Rewards (as well as check out the first and thirds websites). I also follow EPCOT Food & Wine Festival and EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival on Facebook.
Hello! I'm a Crowdtapper! I joined May of 2011. I didn't really know what it was when I joined, I just saw a lot of "freebie" pages on Facebook were joining. They lured me in with ideas that I'd get Old Navy clothes for free (well they were right).

A few things have changed since I joined nearly a year ago...for one they went from Beta to I guess Alpha! LOL. That meant quite a few changes for us that had been with the site a while, but I'll just talk about what the site is now.

When you sign up to be a Crowdtapper, they like to verify that you are a real person and tie you to your Facebook account, but you must have 20 friends (I think). You can write them and tell them you do not have a FB page, and they will use your telephone number or something. They are trying to ensure you only have one account...so don't think they are getting crazy with your page. So, you sign up and fill out your personal information (as much as you like)...and then get verified, and the fun begins!
As a Crowdtapper, you will answer Quick Hit Questions as they appear under your Actions. Your response may or may not relate to a potential discussion. So, answer honestly, because sometimes they want people who do not like something. Also, Webshares will appear in your Quick Hits, these give you the option of sharing a video or information. You will also get the opportunity to participate in Discussions. These allow you to respond thoughtfully to a discussion question and then comment on other's posts. You have the chance to get Top Awards, if you fulfill what the moderator has in mind for the Discussion. When you are the right demographic, have been on the site for a certain length of time, and reach the right levels, you MAY get asked to apply for Sample & Share or Hosted Party opportunities. The difference is...a Sample & Share you share with one other person, a Hosted Party you share with 3 or more (depending on the type of party). Again, there is the chance to get a Top Award in either of these. Also, for these you write a report.
You will get points for your participation in all the above actions and for signing in daily (10 points). Quick Hits get 10, 25, 50, and random larger amounts. Discussion posts are 100 points (one per discussion question), comments on others are 25 points for the first post (daily) per discussion. The same point system is used for Sample/Shares and Hosted Parties. Top Awards will garner 15,000 points for a regular discussion and 40,000 points for a Sample/Share or Hosted Party. Reports in Sample/Shares and Hosted Parties, depending on how the moderator rates will get you A LOT more points (4,000 for an approved, 10,000 for an excellent). Webshare points are as follows: 25 points taking a webshare, 25 points per person that rates your webshare, 800 points for a completed Webshare). Also, you will get points when you receive Stars on your Discussion posts and other times, 200 points per star.
So, what's the deal with the points? Well, a few things. The more points you have the higher your level, as you go up in levels, you get a new banner. Also, you can redeem points for Amazon.com gift codes, Crowdtap T-shirt, Donation of your choice, Artsicle, Bonobo, and more. Minimum points to redeem for something is 10,000. To get an Amazon gift code, you need 20,000 points for $10 or 50,000 points for $25.
Tips for Discussions and Sample/Shares and Hosted Parties: Answer the question honestly with insight and share your personal experiences. If you can, provide a relevant picture or link. It is not always the longest response that gets a star or wins the Top Award, but do not just write one sentence. That will just get you your points, it will not get stars and potential to win a Top Award. After you have completed a discussion, go back and look for stared posts, read them and take mental notes for next time. That's what I did. Also, for Sample & Shares, and Hosted Parties I recommend you take a lot of pics, so you can share at least 10 good ones...and do write a blog post, I believe that helps! Another great tip - read Crowdtap's blog, its full of information about how to be the best Crowdtapper you can, plus any news, sometimes extra contests...and follow them on Facebook!
Crowdtap has missions that you complete...they range from answering 100 quick hits, to receiving 3 Top Awards in Discussions. When you complete these, you gain extra points. I wouldn't worry about completing them, they complete as you do actions.

Oh....those Stars! OK, so the more stars you get, the higher your Star Power! Star Power is weighted with newer stars receiving more weight over older stars. And, then it is averaged among all users to give you your Star Power. I have a high Star Power, Crowdtap has said the average Star Power is in the 30s...so don't feel bad if it takes you a while to catch up to mine.
I believe you get what you put into Crowdtap. Have fun, it's not a competition...it's about sharing with brands and potentially getting free stuff!

Since joining Crowdtap, I have gained over 258,000 points (I made it to the Top 50 Leader's Board this month), am at Level 14, earned 191 Discussion Stars (for a Star Power of 81), 12 Top Awards, and almost 1200 Actions. I have had the opportunity to be a part of 2 Old Navy Sample & Shares - ActiveWear and Dresses.
Martog is Pete's dog, he's had Martog for most of the 13 and half years of Martog's life. I met Martog back in 2006, so he was about 8, though I swear Pete told me he was 5 at the time (and Martog sure acted younger than 8).

Martog's background (as far as I remember from Pete and his dad's recollection):
Pete's youngest sister brought him home around the 4th of July. She was pretty young herself, carrying a good sized puppy with a big wrinkly head. I gather he was super cute. Well, initially Martog became Pete's dad's dog, but I guess over time or perhaps bonded better with Pete, you can tell Pete is his #1. No doubt though Martog loves any and all attention and remembers those that give it freely. Due to Martog's big head size, and being rather wrinkly as a puppy, Pete's dad named him Martog...after the Star Trek Klingon, General Martok.

Source

As Martog got bigger he became a protector of the family and Pete's dad's business. One story they love to tell is that Pete's dad was leaving work late, and Martog was there, ran out and started barking around the vehicle...and out from the vehicle ran a man..that they think was waiting to attack Pete's dad. Well, luckily they never had to know for sure, because Martog being big...with a huge head and jaw...scared that man and he went running. Martog chased after. Who knows what happened, except, Martog came back fine and no man came back.

I have no idea the time-frames, I just know events happened. Pete had to give up Martog for a while, and the man they gave him to, used Martog as a fighting dog. They of course had NO IDEA that this man did this...until that man said their dog wasn't working out and gave him back or they went to get him because they heard about this. I have no idea, but Pete got Martog back and he was so scared and skittish...his fur was matted all the heck and he wasn't the same ever again. But, as those of us that know Martog, he's still a good dog that loves people's attention, but will bark at what he perceives as a potential intruder.
When I met Martog, he was this big loveable dog, that definitely seemed like a younger dog. He played, he did tricks, and he was very well behaved. He did have some quirks, the biggest of all being he would not go on tiled floor. When, I moved in with Pete and a couple other guys...he was still this way and it was in 2007. At some point during this time, one of the roommates, left a couple of his female in heat Chihuahuas at the house...while he went out of town or something. Martog, ever being the lover, took a shine to these small females...but alas they could not consummate their love. They did playful things at each other and would you guess, these two female Chihuahuas went everywhere in the house, and so did Martog. From that point on...he went on the tile...cautiously at first, but as the years went on...without fear! It's amazing what "love" can do! LOL.
When Parker (my Chihuahua) and Martog met, Parker wasn't sure about him, but Martog has always moved out of the way of Parker...and will even move out of the way for Parker to eat his food, well not if there are treats involved or people food! The two get along fine, and even sometimes you can find them sniffing each others noses, so cutely. Martog has always been confrontational with other dogs...so it was a bit of surprise that he got along with Parker. Pete's thought Martog thinks Parker is an eternal puppy. Who knows!
Expect to become a favorite stop! He's got thick fur, and can get a lil doggie sticky, but most people do not mind. It's worth it all for such a happy friendly dog.

As Martog has gotten older, he's been whinier...more demanding of particular Pete's attention. Not that he wasn't always somewhat that way, but more and more so. He's also hungrier than ever! He also has gained a heavy breathing, that we never noticed until he was on steroids one time for an ear injury (luckily lately it seems to only come on with activity [normal] and seems more likely when hot or humid. Only in the past year and half, maybe 2 years has he started to show signs of back leg arthritis...really bad in the past year. Well, as luck would have it...when you are waiting to bring your pet in til you can afford to the vet...and emergency happens.

Early in December last year, we were all (about 6 of us) sitting around in the living room talking...when Pete noticed Martog walking funny. He went over to him...but he started really walking funny, and thrashing his legs. They laid him down and tried to calm him...eventually it passed and now we think he had a seizure. This prompted a night time vet visit and $1000 later, to be told Martog likely has cancer in one of his kidneys, potentially also his prostate...and the doctor theorized possibly moved to the brain to cause the seizure. Calcium deposits in X-rays, and an 3 or 4 times normal kidney, show something is very wrong in there. Ever since, Martog has been on pain pills, anti-inflammatory pills and twice antibiotics. The doctor in Dec said he had 3 months to live, well he's still here, and no more seizures (that we know of). He does have bad back leg arthritis...and although he can hold his pee, he doesn't know when he's going to poo. We have to be very watchful...if that tail lifts, out he goes! It's helped now that we know...to lessen the indoor incidences. He's still super hungry, drinks water, and loves attention. So, for now...we know he's got more time in him to live a decent life.
Martog has been to a different doctor earlier this month, but they came to the same conclusion and some of Martog's blood work isn't so great...but all things considered his blood work is amazing. The doctor says though just to make him happy...since he's old and has cancer, who knows how long he has...just feed him, give him treats, and love him. So, that's what we're doing...doctor said he could go "tomorrow" or a few months from now. I personally see him and think he's still in a pretty good condition and think he has a few more good months in him, or else he'll pass suddenly.

It's amazing that Martog has always been in very good health all his life until past year....Pete says its because Martog is a mutt...best of each breed in him. That very well could be true.
I joined smiley360 sometime last year. It's been a great site for me, letting me try a few full size products (Redbox Movie Rental, Zatarain's Frozen Meal, and Arm&Hammer Simply Saline Neti Pot). Well, in February I joined the Woolite Complete mission...we had to share the coupon and information about Woolite Complete..and if we met the criteria we could get a whole bottle in the mail free!

I met that and a full size bottle of Woolite Complete came my way! And you can get a $2 off 50oz container here on their Facebook page. That is the smallest size, other sizes are 75, 115, and 133 oz.

Woolite Complete is for all your clothes, not just your delicates! They want you to know this by their new name - COMPLETE! It doesn't contain harsh ingredients, so you won't stretch, shrink, or fade your clothes. You can keep all your clothes looking like new!

Of course, I had to try out this product...as we all have known Woolite for years to only be used on super delicates. And, then out came Woolite for darks...and now....Woolite Complete for ALL clothes and colors. *There is also a Woolite EXTRA Color Care.* I washed about 3 loads of laundry using it - towels, blacks/grays, and beiges (yes I was by color). All came out clean...and none were ruined! Even after washing one set after my boyfriend washed some rags in there (and said oooh I wouldn't have washed darks after those), yep nothing ruined! I haven't used repeatedly so I can't say if they will keep my clothes looking new longer wash after wash, but I can say they all come out clean!

Source

My only thing is...it's too subtle of a scent...I love my clothes smelling fresh. Being that I hang dry a lot of my tops, if it doesn't get the fresh clean scent in the wash, it won't get it. So, I do have to add extra something if I plan to keep using Woolite Complete.
I LOVE Sampler Village! They are a group of people that make their own products, and decided to get together to sell sample boxes...so people can see what they can do...and with the samples come business cards and often % off coupons to use on the person's personal selling site.

Well, these sampler boxes are amazing! They are called the Charmingly Samplicious Box (with 15-20 samples each month), the Lavishly Samplicious Box (with 35-45 randomly selected samples each month), and the Yummylicious Treats Sampler Box (all edible treats, available Oct - Apr). The prices vary, but are around - Lavish $35-40, Yummy $40, and Charming $25 (all well worth it). It depends on how many items go into the box that month, and remember not every Villager's item goes into the box...as they could have 100 providing for the box, but you only get 35-45 items. ;) And the boxes always have themes, even when its not a holiday!

Currently all boxes are sold out for the month of March.

I have personally bought 2 Lavishly Samplicious boxes and 2 Yummylicious Sampler boxes. And I have loved every one of them! They come with so many great items and the ones I don't like or want, I give away here and there. The boxes are filled with all kinds of things handmade - soaps, lip balms, makeup, candles, wax tarts, jewelry, pins, hair bows, photos, crafts, etc. They come in a lovely box with a gauze bow and colored tissue paper. Here's pictures of the past boxes:
Last Friday night (3/16/12), Pete and I decided to go downtown here in Columbia to see what's going on. I wanted to go dancing...he wanted to go because I wanted to go...of course he started to get tired and was like, let's stay in. By that time though, I had showered and got my make-up on. So, we were going out.

Make-up on, check...mousse in hair, check. I was good to go! Oh, right clothes!

Downtown isn't far from here, so we got there fast and decided to park in the free parking. We walked a few blocks UP hill to the Art Bar, but neither of us liked the music coming out and it was a $5 cover. So, we walked down the hill to Wet Willy's because I really had to pee (drank down a good bit of water b4 we left in anticipation of getting my drink on - didn't happen). Inside the place was packed, but no music we liked, just basketball on. Ugh.
Since I don't go out often, or wear heels of any kind much anymore (worked at home for 8 months and now job searching for 2 ish), the small heels I was wearing were hurting! I ended up with blisters on my baby toes! :(
Well, we decided one last ditch effort...stop by Blue, cuz we've had fun there before. Well, we stood outside a while listening to the music to see if it'd change...and it didn't. Instead of partying it up downtown...
Hello! I thought I'd take today to promote my Photography Facebook Page! One day I hope to get it onto a website of its own, but for now...it's Lunajubar Photography on Facebook. My website links back to Facebook at this time.

For the most part I have always loved taking pictures and being in pictures. With digital cameras I started to take more and more. I have found I love taking pictures of small things that are tougher to get detail out of - like bugs and flowers! But, I also take pictures of scenery, animals, pets, and people!

So, please go check it out and let me know what you think of my photos! And while you are there, please like the page! THANK YOU! Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165191281334932151.post-1420885278286872772012-03-20T16:13:00.003-04:002012-03-20T22:57:48.360-04:00I Knew Who My Family Was, Until...Tweet

All my life, I knew who my family was...who my mom was and who my father was. I had one brother (J), and that's it. Or so I thought. When I was 28 years old, I was using MySpace way more than Facebook, and my sister-in-law (K) found me on MySpace. Well, let's just say this came as a shock to me, for one thing my brother, J, wasn't married...for two...this woman knew a good bit about me.

K wrote to me on behalf of her husband, E, who I have found out is indeed my half-brother. She said he had been looking for me for about 10 years, ever since he found out I existed (I had no idea during that time he existed, let alone 2 other half-sisters). He had heard I was at a Florida college, and so he tried looking at UF (AS IF)...well as luck would have it, I was at FSU (GO NOLES!). She decided that fateful Oct. 2007 day to look me up on MySpace and there I was...she later told me she was so nervous writing me not knowing what I'd say.

Source

Well, when I got that email, I was at work...and I couldn't work anymore that day. She knew who my parents were...and knew where I was from...etc. Whoa! In the back of my mind was something my mom had said to me when I was in high school - she had told me that my father wasn't my father...and I told her, "You're lying, because you hate him." Since, they were long divorced. Well, you'd think someone else trying to tell something would continue to tell them, but apparently that was enough for her to not tell me.

I tried to call my mom to confirm with her, but she was unreachable at this time. I told my grandma (mom's mom) about this..and she said she didn't know anything about me having a father other than (D), but she could believe it. So, K and I conversed some more...and she knew a good bit, but not all...and well I had a lot to find out about! And, my mom finally confirmed that she was 99.9% sure this other man, E, was my father. Whoa. Hello! Wasn't there any other time before they contacted me that you'd think you'd want to tell me? Her response, "I would have told you if you dated {last name}." Awe, thanks for looking out for me mom!

What I found out was: my mom had been dating E when she was 18, she got pregnant with me, and he broke up with her around that time (not that he knew at the time she was pregnant) and had gotten with another women (actually cheated on my mom - hurt her bad as an 18 yr old who was pregnant). She knew D, and he was there the whole time she was pregnant and after she had me, she told everyone that he was the father. He eventually "adopted" me. E apparently tried to get in touch with my mom about me, but she said he was never to have anything to do with me. So, that's how that happened.

Well, turns out that J is my half-brother...because my mom is still my mom and his. D is his father. E had other kids, so they are my other half-siblings - A (older sister), E (younger brother), and C (younger sister). Weird to go from 1 sibling to 4 overnight. And, that means my whole paternal side of my ancestry research was wrong - I now had this whole other side. And this added another grandma and a great-grandmother (still alive, she's 95).

Now, I have a mom, a birth father, and an adoptive father. Whhhhat? Just like that. I also have 3 grandmas, a grandfather, and a great-grandmother still alive. That's pretty awesome. ;) What saddens me though, when doing my ancestry research, is seeing that I could have known almost all of my great-grandparents - it seems most were alive when I was younger (also on my mom's side, but that's another crazy story - let's just say I still wonder why when my mom found out her aunt was her grandma, why then she didn't think it was a good time to tell me - that was in like 1991).

So, yep. And great for genealogy, the new paternal side had done a lot of research and had their ancestry all the way back to the first one to come over in the 1600s...so that was pretty exciting.

Oh, also with the "new" siblings came 9 nieces and nephews, when I had none previously. Yep, 0 to 9 overnight. It was surreal, it was weird....but, here it is nearly 3 and half years later, and I've met most all of them. And, E & his family had only lived about an hour to hour & half away from Orlando (where I lived at the time). It's nice to have more family, but sad we didn't get to meet when we were younger. And, I may never have known if E & K hadn't been curious to find this missing sister of E's. So, at least we all know now and can keep in touch.
Life sure is funny, I never thought I'd have a story (and this was the short & quick of it) like this to tell. Well, other than the one I already knew about my mom's side of the family (save that for another time)! Sorry, I didn't want to share names or pictures...sharing my story, not sharing all of them.
I'm a member of Crowdtap and they provide us with awesome opportunities like this where we can get products for free and share with friends! I was so happy to see in February that I could apply for a spot in the Old Navy Dress Sample & Share..and of course I did! Once you apply, you have to wait until they are letting people in...well that day came only a few days after applying (for some reason, normally its a couple weeks), and I started to see people were being let in...

I had an interview to get ready for that day and was getting directions ready...when I noticed they were passing out spots in order from length on Crowdtap...when it came around to length I've been on...well woohoo! I jumped with excitement, there was MY INVITE to JOIN! You bet I did!

Then came the part of who to bring with me...to get the other FREE dress coupon! Since, I had brought Pete's sister, Nicole, with me to the Old Navy ActiveWear Sample & Share, it was easy to invite his other sister (that lives her in SC, he has 2 other sisters in MI), Elizabeth. Of course, she accepted! She was excited to look for a dress that would be comfortable in the summer while her baby bump grows (she's due early Oct).

Well, then one has to wait for the coupons to arrive...and go between the dates provided. Coupons arrived on time, and we went on Saturday the 10th. She drove us there, which I appreciated. Then we had lunch at a tasty Mexican restaurant that I cannot remember the name of. THEN the main event!

Outside the store were girl scouts selling cookies...inside the store was a women's event, where they wanted to sell us drinks and have us provide an inspirational story...we passed. We were there for dresses, not inspiration! Old Navy was busy, but nothing ridiculous.

We grabbed bags and got right to walking around looking at all the dresses. We each grabbed about 7 dresses. The dress selection was nice, though I was still bummed some of my favs were only available online. The dresses were spread out...in different sections, I imagine by newest at the front. The only stipulation was not to get a dress on clearance! OK!

When we felt we had found all the dresses we liked to try on...we headed to the dressing room. There we would each get a dress on and then I'd take my own picture in the mirror and then take Elizabeth's picture. We would also give quick opinions of our own dress and each others. The dressing room was busier than I'd like. Here's the dresses we tried on!
I wasn't sure about them at the time, but now I am. Drats! I don't think Elizabeth liked the first, the second she didn't think would expand with her baby bump. ;)

Elizabeth went with the green floral maxi dress.

I went with the blue and green striped off-white dress (makes us both think of Easter). And then I also bought the black ballerina-feeling dress.

It was a wonderful experience. These opportunities give me a chance to try colors and styles I might not normally... for some reason when its free, I branch out more! Also, I'm not sure why I kept cocking my head to the one side for all the pics, probably because I was taking my own pic. LOL. O'well.

If you'd like to join Crowdtap - join here. On Crowdtap you get what you put into it. When you join, you will get points as you complete Quick Hits (quiz questions), participate in Discussions (lengthy responses and comments on others posts), Webshares, etc. As you move up in levels you will get invites to Sample & Shares and Hosted Parties. It can take a while, but if you have the right demographics, you can expect to get one in no time! Oh, and the points you earn can be used toward gift cards and donations. I usually get the Amazon gift cards, but there are others.
Okay, that's harsh. It was ANNOYING!

First of all, we got up late. Not that we had anything in particular to do, but it doesn't set one off on the right foot if you wake up later than planned. Oh, I can't remember the order now so here's a list of the annoying!

I was re-trying to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 to my desktop and it just wouldn't happen. Neither would Paintshop Photo Pro X3. I was able to install WinZip14 (maybe I'm behind the times - seems we are up to WinZip 16) and Microsoft Office. After some frustrating frustrating moments....where I did everything the Adobe help said to do - including defrag my drive and delete all temporary files...(see next bullet)

I went to the Adobe website and tried to contact and found chat. After discussing what was happening...didn't know if it was the disc or my DVD player...thought I saw a spot that could be the disc, only to find out....yep since they had the new version, my only option was to buy the new version. Sorry, so sorry.

Found out, its actually my DVD drive that is going, because PSE9 installed fine on my laptop - figures!

I stubbed my toes (different ones) two different times. One hurt more than the other.

I had to wash the bowls so that lunch could be eaten. Just annoying. LOL.

Pete tempted me with fast food and I tried to resist, when I finally caved, we decided on Zaxbys. I was to get The House Zalad. Well, the annoying part was they were out of honey mustard...and so Pete's brother that went to get the food, decided on ranch (eh). Then, my zalad should have had fried chicken on it and instead had regular. It was not better this way...but I still ate it because I was hungry. (On an aside, both times during our quest to eat healthier when we have gotten fast food we've been disappointed, perhaps this is a sign?).

I know you all are wondering...what happened after the juice fast of three days?

Well, we decided to eat raw foods for two days, 48 hours...and to me this was harder than drinking the juice. I don't really know why, but I felt more tired and hungrier..with more cravings. Hmm, maybe there is something to all those veggies being juiced and the nutrients (don't get me wrong I was hungry about all the time during the juice diet).

On Thursday, March 1st, we start out our morning with a smoothie, followed by a cucumber soup...and for dinner a garden wrap.

The berry smoothie became the best thing I had all week (other than the snack juice):

1 cup strawberries
1 banana
1 cup water
2 tbsp protein powder
1 tbsp flax seed oil (yes we happened to have this in the house)

After drinking only juice, this was more than filling. I did fine in the morning..but was really looking forward to trying the cucumber soup...with a side of tomato.

Cream of Cucumber Soup (From "Raw Food Made Easy")
4 romaine lettuce leaves
1 cucumber
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp garlic (1 clove crushed) - we used garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 ripe avocado
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp minced fresh cilantro

Oh, in theory this sounded lovely. I was so excited...it looked so green and creamy...the reality was...it was weird and the tomato was the best part. Pete added a lil more of this and that...and in the end...neither of us liked it. This was a total fail. Neither of us finished it, was making us fell sick! I ended up eating some trail mix and an apple to fill up. Blech!

When it was time for dinner we made up the Garden Wraps:

6 thin slices onion (Pete only)
1/2 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
1 tbsp of tamari (We had NO CLUE what this was when we went shopping, found out its organic gluten-free soy sauce)
1 large collard leaf (we went w/ green leaf instead)
1/2 ripe avocado
1/4 cucumber
1/4 cup grated carrot

So, this seemed like a dream after lunch! LOL, but in reality it wasn't anything special and I was like I'd rather eat a salad. It was pretty much like eating a salad wrapped in a lettuce leaf. I just wanted there to be bread holding it (regular wrap) or else meat inside...left me wanting more. Pete had all this (sans lettuce leaf) inside of Nori (of which I can't stand). It looked more wrapped up! He loved his.

On Friday, we changed this up...and remember all recipes are for ONE person..double for TWO!

Berry Smoothie
1 cup blueberries (a little under actually)
2 strawberries
1/2 blood orange
1 banana
2 tbsp protein powder
1 tbsp flax seed oil
1 cup water

Oh, so this tasted alright...yep..it did. Until you let it sit 5 minutes...sure wasn't as good as the other day, but then it got TERRIBLE! It hardened up like pudding! It was like drinking pudding...or worse. Ugh. I couldn't finish mine, I sure tried, though. Pete added water to his to cut it. Wow, sure won't be adding citrus and protein powder again any time soon!

For lunch, I took all the ingredients that made up the cucumber soup and turned it into a salad! I had some salad dressing mix on hand and just added balsamic vinegar and olive oil to taste...with a bit of water. This worked out so much better, and I was SO happy! Oh, I added crushed almonds on top also...

Then for dinner, I did the same thing, same ingredients as the Garden Wrap, but in a salad. I was quite alright with eating salads twice. Only problem was...I really started to crave things...like meat.

Once midnight hit...Pete and I both kept saying we wanted a burger...oh we wanted a burger...and then we did the UNTHINKABLE! We went to Wendy's after midnight! We got two Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers and to me it so wasn't worth it. Pete said it satisfied his need...but I'd have rather not had it. I went and ate a banana and some trail mix to get the greasy feeling out of my mouth!

I have to say...going raw food was tougher than juicing..I think because you expect it to taste good! LOL...and with juicing you don't expect that so its OK when it doesn't. I personally found I had more cravings with the raw food, although with the juicing I had a lot more day dreaming about food! LOL. Who knows, but I consider that we survived both of them..and did both of them...since my indiscretions were after midnight. ;)

I told my vegan friend in Tampa, that I thought it must be easier to be vegan than to be a raw foodist. I stand by that! LOL. I'd rather eat vegan foods than raw foods solely. I enjoy raw foods when I want them, but all day every day, whoa!Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165191281334932151.post-40185845407220247762012-03-01T18:31:00.003-05:002012-03-20T22:59:36.374-04:00My Juice Fast - Day 3Tweet
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Once again, I awoke and went back to sleep. When I finally got up, I still layed there for a while. It was already after 10am...and then before I knew it, it was almost 11am. I didn't feel any hungrier than if I had eaten a normal meal the night before. I felt pretty good.

I should mention, that my friend in Tampa that is also doing the juice fast with us, and she's vegan...cracked! LOL. She wasn't feeling good at all in the morning and ate a bowl of cereal. Then she decided to hop back on the juicing wagon for a lunch juice. Moral is "Don't give up...just get back on track!"
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 1 - We had our first juice around noon. It was, of course, the Mean Green (from Reboot site) modified.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">3 Apples
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1 - 2 Cucumbers
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6-8 Kale leaves
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1/2 Lemon
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Piece of Ginger

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I drank a little bit of the juice...and went back to doing stuff on the PC. I was adding pictures to my Day 2 blog post...when something happened. It scared me.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">My lip area and below my nose started to feel...and it started to feel stingy. I went to look in the mirror, but didn't see anything. I told Pete about it and went back to the PC. Well, then it all went crazy! The stingy feeling went up to my forehead, then out to my cheeks and ears...down my neck and down my back...and I started to panic! I went out to tell Pete and ran to see the mirror. My face was getting red (and it got redder). It all stung...ached, felt weird. I started to cry...and Pete was like look it up...well I said you look it up! I stopped crying and took pictures, of course...as Pete looked it up to see if it was related to juicing.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

Again, my skin isn't normally this pink.

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, it seems I was having a detox reaction to all the juicing...getting a rash is typical. So...from the tip of my head to my buttocks (didn't really go down my legs)...I was red or red/blotchy...for about an hour. The stingy went away first, and then the red. After finding that out, I calmed down...but of course I had sent a panicked text to my friend in Tampa...and then a blow-by-blow of what I was going through!
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So, I had 3/4 of the juice left to drink and I wasn't too excited to drink the juice again. Somehow, I did...and fast. I had errands to run, so if it was going to happen again...I wanted to get it over with so I could go out. I thought I felt it start, but it never did. PHEW!
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">We decided we are not continuing the juice fast after Day 3 this go round...we are proud to make it 3 days. So, we went to Earth Fare to buy some food for a raw food diet for Thursday and Friday of this week. Have to say, I'm really looking forward to EATING SOMETHING!
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">After we got back, I put everything away and got the ingredients out for our second juice of the day.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 2 - Dracula's Dream Juice (from Reboot site)
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Carrots
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Beets
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6-8 Kale Leaves
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1 cup Strawberries
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It always seems like a waste to me to put those beautiful sweet red strawberries in this juice, because it never tastes sweet...it always tastes so green for being so reddish-purple. Anyway, other than that "exciting" incident...I have felt fine today. I haven't felt super tired, I've felt rather awake. I did have a bit of light-headedness, but once I finished the 1st juice I was good. I did, however feel rather hungry this evening. More so than yesterday.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 3 - Came after midnight, after Day 3 officially ended, and after we shared a Nice! bar. Yep, right after Day 3 ended, because we chose to go raw foods...I said...what the heck...let's eat this nut and berry bar! Pete said we failed, I said, no we didn't..we got through three days! After we ate our halves of it..we felt weird. He said it tasted so good, I said, I wasn't satisfied with it. So we had a mean green juice.

6 - 8 Kale leaves
1 Cucumber
2 Apples
1/2 Lemon

I let Pete have more than me, because he was so hungry, even after midnight. I wasn't even able to finish the juice, I was so full feeling.

It was weird, I felt such clarity until I got tired. I felt good all day, other than the "incident" (and if anyone cares, I did #2 twice today) and some hunger pains. I did feel I could go on with the juice fast, but at this time we're ready to start eating...so tomorrow (today) is raw food day 1. We're only doing it for 2 days, so don't get excited. LOL. We're working our way toward a diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, grass-fed meats and other animal products, and minimal processed foods. Let's see if we can get there one day....it's a work in progress!

UPDATE - Today (the day after juice fast day 3) my friend in Tampa informed me that...she couldn't do it..she ended up eating a vegan pizza for dinner. And she's going to go on in Day 4 etc, eating veggies and juicing...hoping that works better for her. I think it will. Some of us will work better doing a raw food diet with juicing...to reboot your system, rather than all juicing. Though, I do think having Pete go through the juicing with me, helped me tremendously...as her husband did he join in the juicing (but he was very supportive of her juicing!).

After reading my 3 days of juice fasting, do you think you could do it? Why or why not? Do you think you could do a longer juice fast? If you have already done one, please tell me your experience and length. <div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Day two of the juice fast has been different than day 1, I suppose that's expected. I woke up this morning and promptly went back to sleep. When I got up again, I still wasn't ready to face the day...I layed there for a while. I wasn't ready for a juice...but then...Pete got up and said he was going to make our juices. Cool. I still layed there...and my friend doing the juice fast with us (at a distance) text me..asking if I was avoiding the day, too. Yes, I was. LOL.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 1 - Pete brought me juice 1 - Alternative Green Juice (from the Reboot site) around 10:30am.

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 cups of Spinach
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6 - 8 leaves of Kale
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1 cucumber (recipe called for 1/2)
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">4 stalks of Celery
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Apples
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Piece of Ginger

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, I still tasted the celery overpoweringly (thinking about trying none in my juice), so I added some raw, unfiltered honey and that helped. I took almost 2 hours to drink it, no honey added. I felt pretty good after drinking it..not really tired...not hungry...just OK.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, around 7pm, I started to feel extremely tired...no hunger pains...no headache...just fuzzy tired head.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It's after 9 now, and I'm feeling hungry...I think it's time for the Mean Green juice.

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 3 - Mean Green (from the Reboot site).

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6-8 Kale leaves
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Apples
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">4 Celery Stalks (I substituted carrots)
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1 Cucumber
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1/2 lemon
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Piece of Ginger

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">After a while, I started feeling better....less tired. We watched a documentary called Killer at Large: Why Obesity is America's Greatest Threat. At first it was, well boring...and not that inspiring, but as it went on it got better. And, as the night went on I felt better...and more awake...and well not too hungry. Finding that if I talk about specific food or think about specific food...that's when I get hungry.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Also, I started feeling really giddy and just happy late at night...I don't know if I was getting a high off the juice sugar or what...but I couldn't stop laughing...until finally we were in bed and I just crashed...
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So, all in all, I'd say today was better than yesterday. I'd still love to eat a steak, but I am sure I can get through Day 3 drinking just juice and water! Let's do this!
Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165191281334932151.post-64068336361002853382012-02-28T13:05:00.002-05:002012-03-20T23:00:25.732-04:00My Juice Fast - Day 1Tweet

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Backstory - My boyfriend and I started watching all these food documentaries...and well I started thinking about a juice fast to kick-start or reboot my body into eating a lot more veggies and fruits (goal is AT least 51%) and a heck of lot less processed foods! Well, I mentioned this to a friend of mine (she's already a vegan that still wants to eat healthier and cut out fried foods)...and she said she was going to ask me if I wanted to do one (mind you, she lives in Tampa and I live in Columbia). So..then we set a date..2/27/12 (which was one week from when we all decided this).
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Reason - We are doing this because we both have "love handles" - sounds so much nicer than they are...and we eat so much processed food it's incredible! We want to go toward a diet rich in micronutrients with less macronutrients ...we just want our insides to get healthier and feel healthier! So...on to the Juice Fast!
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Shopping - On Sunday we all went shopping (in our respective cities). Pete and I went to the SC State Farmer's Market for some of veggies and then to Earth Fare for the rest. Total we spent $90 for 3 days worth of juicing produce.Pictures are only some of what we bought.
I'm working on my 3rd juice of the day as I write this. I woke up this morning feeling hungrier than usual (probably due to eating 5 meals yesterday)...and laid in bed for a while thinking about how I needed to weigh myself (haven't done in a while) and take pictures to see if after a while all my healthy changes start making a difference. Then we got up...to make our first juice.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 1 - We set up the juicer...and rinsed all the produce we needed for this juice - the Mean Green recipe - per Joe Cross's Reboot Website. Turned into 24 ounces.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

1 Cucumber
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6-8 Kale leaves
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">4 Celery stalks
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Apples
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1/2 lemon (we ended up using a whole lemon b/c they were shriveled)
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Piece of ginger
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

For me this drink was bitter, all I tasted was the celery stalks...bleh! And the more I drank...the weirder I felt. I think my body was revolting against this influx of lots of micronutrients, since I normally have bread for breakfast! For a couple hours my head felt weird, with a slight headache, and I got a nauseous feeling. I think we had this first juice around 9:30am.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I decided to re-watch Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead for inspiration from Joe Cross and Phil. It helped...I started to feel better inside and out...
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 2 - Around 2:30pm we made our second juice of the day - Dracula's Dream Juice (also from the Reboot website). Turned into 16 ounces.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Beets
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">2 Carrots
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">1 cup Strawberries
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">6-8 Kale leaves
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">This juice was better, way more tolerable. It is insane how green it smelled for being so red! Pete said, "Earthy". OK! Anyway, a lot better...and I felt so hungry while drinking it...after not hungry. Also, just had a slight headache no other pains. Woo! Pete had felt fine in the morning, but said he started to have a headache after this juice.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Well, in between juice 2 and 3...we both had bouts of hunger. I can tell you I really have started dreaming about when I can eat something solid...and I want it to be steak, but I know it should be vegetables and nuts! Grr.
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Juice 3 - Third juice of the day is Mean Green, modified, made around 7:30pm. Pete doesn't mind bitter, so to him this juice is better (lucky).
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So far, feeling fine, but I'm not half-way through the juice...one side-effect all day has been the need to uhh pee a lot today. And I mean, A LOT!

Sometime after midnight, Pete was so hungry he was like can I make another juice? And, I was thinking I could use some, too. So we made our own thing - some blueberries, pineapple and apples. It was THE BEST JUICE WE HAD ALL DAY! Since it was late, I only had a little bit, Pete had more.

<b style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Looking Forward<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> - I look forward to feeling less hungry as the juice fast goes on...and feeling overall better...as they did in the documentary. We are committed to 3 days...and will asses and potentially go on to 10 being our maximum days at the juice fast. After the juice fast we shall eat only vegetables/fruits and nuts for a day or two...then move on to a well balanced, minimal processed foods diet (at least this is my hope...my plan...we shall see how it goes). Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165191281334932151.post-30615874610361866402012-02-27T12:50:00.036-05:002012-03-27T22:51:17.082-04:00Current Instant Win Games (updated 2/27/12)

Also pay attention to the receive email check boxes - most aren't required. Did you? Have you used it?

So, we have this problem that some of our knives and pots and pans get rust on them...and its really annoying, because it could just be from sitting in the sink overnight (or for a week). Then bam, useless...but we wouldn't get rid of them...just I'd set off to the side and wait for magic.

Finally a few years ago Pete asked his mother, and she said, "Get Barkeeper's Friend, you can find it in Walmart, probably near the floor in the cleaning aisle." Likely, a month later we went out and bought it...and I've been in love with it ever since!

It is amazing! You wet a paper towel or cloth and add some of the powered Barkeeper's Friend...simply wipe...sometimes you have to scrub (but not usually), a little bit, and viola...no more rust! It really is magic! I mean it probably won't get the rest off something that is really now all rust, but for some surface rust..yep gone!

The other day, I went to use our crock pot and saw some weird yellow stuff stuck to the sides of the pot...and I couldn't scrub it off with dish soap or my finger nails...so I tried Barkeeper's Friend and OMG! It worked...this one I had to scrub off, but all clean! No more weird yellow stuff...Barkeeper's Friend is cheap and easy to use....I recommend this product to EVERYONE!

*I have not received this product for free or anything from the company, these are my own thoughts and opinions.*
Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165191281334932151.post-71371278457762138282012-02-22T22:25:00.000-05:002012-02-22T22:25:29.572-05:00Food Documentaries I Watched This Week
Tweet
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">This week, we got really into watching some food documentaries. Let's go back a bit....for years Pete and I have talked about changing our diet, eating healthier, eating less fats and sugars...blah blah. Yet, we haven't changed..to this day! He's wanted us to go on a juice fast...he's wanted us to go raw food...and I've been like sure I'll try it...but not like super excited. So, we never do. Back to now...we noticed a lot more documentaries have loaded onto Netflix and we decided to watch some food related ones together...because again we started talking about changing our diet and exercising and all that.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">The specific documentaries that we watched were:
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead - This was about an Australian guy that decided he needed to change his lifestyle because he was overweight, had a lot of health issues (including an autoimmune disease), and was on his way to being nearly dead. His idea - kick start a healthy living lifestyle by doing a 60 day juice fast. Just take fresh vegetables and fruits and juice them...and drink that for each meal. He was under a doctor's watch. He lost weight and got off all his medications and no longer had his autoimmune disease! After the 60 days he went on to eat a diet of mostly vegetables and fruit and whole grains....and maintains a healthy lifestyle with exercise. He also met a guy that was more overweight than him that also had the same autoimmune disease...and changed that man's life! He lost a lot of weight...convinced others of the lifestyle and is all around happier and healthier and stronger! It's really amazing... no one says you have to do the 60 day juice fast...but jump start with a 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, etc...it just helps to cleanse the body when you change to a more vegetarian diet. I have to say...this show convinced me! Pete and I are going to do a juice fast starting Monday...and a friend of mine has wanted to do one for a while ... so she's doing it also (from a distance).

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">Food Matters - This was all about nutrition and how beneficial it is for us to eat a diet that is at least 51% vegetables and fruit...and how curable heart disease and diabetes are. This show really made me upset thinking about how important nutrition and the foods we eat are, but how its never really relayed to us in such terms other than, "eat your veggies you'll grow up big and strong" "eat your veggies it'll cure what ails ya" "change your diet if you don't want to take these pills". Yep broad terms like that don't get anyone to change. Cuz we hear "in moderation" and how this and that are needed. I had no idea how rich in protein a lot of plants are...that we don't need to eat meat! What! Well, uh this show convinced me to make a change toward AT LEAST 51% diet of vegetables and fruit...and maybe one day going toward vegetarian or vegan...one day.

It really went into scientific data about how a diet like this can actually stop and reverse cardiovascular disease and diabetes! I mean, I've heard about reversing diabetes with food, but...cardiovascular disease...holy wow! The veins actually repair themselves and grow back strong! It also said, it has been shown that cancer patients changing to a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains....no animal protein/products....actually can reverse cancer! Cancer cells shrink and go away! Is that not incredible? Also, this show focused on how big industry has a huge say in what is healthy for us. It talked about how milk has been pushed at us as being needed for its calcium, but it showed that for all the calcium we drink...we still have a huge percentage of people that get osteoporosis...said what happens is because of the animal proteins...our body actually fights it..and fights it with the calcium in our bones. There's a lot of calcium in leafy greens. I have to say again I felt angry that no one had explained this to me before in so many words. We have to seek it out if we want to know...we have to learn on our own what they mean. OMG! You have to watch this..if you do not watch any of the others.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A lot more research and reading has to be done...and a lot of learning...and a lot of recipes found to keep the food interesting! But first...a 3 day that may turn into a 5, 7, 10 day juice fast! We're going to see how it goes at each of those intervals and if we feel good enough to go on...we will! If not, on to veggies and fruits (on day 4, 6, 8, or 11).

I'm sure for most it is just a thought...and others its something they did! I've been at a crossroads for a few years...I quit my career job as an Instructional Designer (ID) in 2010 to try something else, only later in the year to go back to the same career freelancing, and then with a company. Well, earlier this year, I was let go from my job working remotely as an ID and it leaves me once again looking to change my career and figure out my passion. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of aspects of being an ID, but I find on my current path I'm not getting to do the things I learned in college that I especially loved. So...it brings me to...

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I took a little quiz called the "What's Your Dream Job?" on MSN and it was interestingly accurate about the directions I should take.
Last week was full of getting our place ready to move into (should be in by this weekend, yep its taking a while), but some fun was had also!

Mummies of the World - Discovery Place - Charlotte, NC

Earlier this month I bought a Living Social deal of buy 1 get 1 ticket to Mummies of the World, including audio. Stipulation, had to be used by 1/31/12. OK! We thought we were all going to go on 1/22/12, but that didn't work out, so Pete & I went on Wednesday, 1/25/12.

The morning of, thought we'd get up super early and go...but we didn't...and then when we did head out, got gas, got breakfast, got on the highway...I realized I forgot the tickets at home! Whhhhat? Yep...had to turn around and go get them. Pete was like maybe we should go tomorrow...but I'm glad we went. We got to the Discovery Place around noon...the drive from Columbia to Charlotte is pretty fast (with minimal traffic) and took about an hour and 15 minutes.

Off we went...first up Mummies of the World! Waiting was only because the video had to start again...hah. And in we went...it was great! It wasn't packed, we got to go at our pace, if anyone did come around, we could easily wait or go to another spot and come back...it was awesome to be leisurely...and not crowded with people on every side (that's how it was when I went to the Tut Exhibit in Miami in 2006).

There were natural and man-made mummies. Mummies were under 100 years old to over 3,500 years old! Absolutely a wonderful exhibit to go see and you can until April 2012! I loved it...very informative. I only listened to one audio instance and it had a lot more information about the particular mummy, but the guy's voice was a bit boring.

It was time for snack, both of us were tired...we ate in the cafe and split a chicken salad sandwich and a lemonade - pretty good. I swear the more you eat it, the more you want it...no idea what they do to it...but when it's hot its awesome. A couple hours later we all (same all) met up again for cake and ice cream...hah. Then...a couple hours later...we all (Nicole, Wes, Elizabeth, Jeff, Zavior, Anthony, Shannon, Pete, and I) went to her mom's house for biscuits and gravy. Shocker! Just Nicole, Wes, and I had shots and all different ones at that! Nicole ordered for her and Wes, "I'll have a Fuzzy Nut, and he'll have an Orgasm." Oh, yes she did! Since, I am a Smiley360 member (If you'd like to join Smiley360, join via my link!), I was given a mission for a free Redbox rental and to share my opinions of it. Awesome! I was excited and since I got this right before the holidays, I waited until January to utilize my freebie.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I thought I was following the directions to get my movie for free, per the mission...but...I must not have been. Here's how it went: I went online and created an account. I found my local Redboxes and then picked out a movie. It said I had to rent online and then enter the code to get free...well...no place to enter a code. So, we went to the box to pick it up...and no place to enter a code when just picking up a movie. I was not happy, but we had a movie to watch for cheap...home we went. I was annoyed, but since I still had my code, figured I'd give it another try.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Attempt two..HA! Well, since I had made my first movie purchase online, Redbox gave me a free code for my next online rental reservation. Of course, I used that...haha. Everything went fine online, and used the code...ta da free. We rode over to the box...and wouldn't you know the box was broken! Not a single touch screen button worked on it...I slide my card...and nothing. No movie for me. I was pissed this time. I mean two times nothing is going right with my Redbox movie renting experience....when I got home I immediately went online and wrote Redbox. Then I went to their Facebook page and wrote a note there...only to see others were having a similar issue as mine (albeit different states and not really related, but wow). Amazingly, there was a wonderful person from Redbox answering people's posts and was really courteous and apologetic and helpful. Seriously, someone was on there after 10pm at night...helping us...I can only say this impressed me and brought me out of my bad mood. A couple days later an email response appeared with an apology, said they were going ot look into the box, and gave me 2 free movie codes that do not expire for 45 days.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Redbox's customer service made things right and really impressed me. So, with my movie codes...I went to rent again...this time with the knowledge that codes must be entered at the box at the time of rental. CHECK!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Third attempt was this Friday night past...we picked out a movie online, but did not rent it. Then we headed to the box for the rental experience. The box worked...the movie we wanted was there, and my original Smiley360 code was finally used. Ta da...success! I was a happy camper that still has 2 movie codes to use! Free movies are wonderful. Of course, my Redbox experience can't go without some sort of error...this time it was my fault completely...we forgot to return it and I paid for a night...haha! To make myself feel better, I let Pete's brother and his girlfriend see it before returning the movie.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So...the bottom line is...for some reason Redbox movie rentals are not going so smoothly for me...but they have a great selection of movies, they are convenient, and their customer service ROCKS! Redbox...you've gained a customer that will proudly tell my COMEDY OF ERRORS that got me to enjoy you!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">All opinions and experiences are my own...and I only received free movie rentals and no other compensation.
Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05998520266911967064noreply@blogger.com0
